When to use it

Use when the firm is acting and the client needs written advice on when a notice must be given and when a proceeding must be started. Delete every row that does not apply. Do not send it as a decline letter. Confirm each period in the current Act before the letter goes out.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

The tool may delete inapplicable rows and insert dates the lawyer has calculated, and the lawyer checks every period against the current Act before the letter is sent.

AI may

  • Remove rows for schemes that do not arise on the facts the lawyer has marked
  • Insert dates the lawyer has calculated next to the section the lawyer has selected
  • List facts still missing before a date can be given

AI must not

  • Must not calculate a deadline from an assumed date of injury
  • Must not leave a row in the letter for a state or a scheme that does not apply
  • Must not say a claim is in time, or out of time, unless the lawyer has made that decision

The lawyer checks

  • Each period in the letter was checked in the current Act on the day of sending, including any regulation that can change a motor-accident period
  • Child, disability, dust and child-abuse rows are kept or removed according to the facts, not by default
  • The letter matches the diary. A Queensland notice that requires a statutory declaration is completed by the client, not by the tool
