When to use it

Use when a brief is being assembled for a settlement conference or a mediation. Do not use it as the position paper, the trial brief, or the statutory conference record in a work injury damages claim.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

Counsel or the client may be given this index, and it is not a document that is filed.

AI may

  • List the tabs of the brief and leave a tab blank when the document does not exist.
  • Insert the attendance rule from the practice note that applies to this court, and no other.
  • Record whether a costs disclosure has been given, without restating the disclosure statutes.

AI must not

  • Do not write the mediation position paper or a statutory conference record in this index.
  • Do not copy the District Court attendance rule into the Supreme Court, or the Supreme Court of Victoria rule into the County Court.
  • Do not put health records into a public tool. List them only if the lawyer has decided a copy is needed at the conference.
  • Do not draft an affidavit for an adjournment of the conference.

The lawyer checks

  • Read the order that listed the conference. It prevails over a general practice note.
  • Practice Note SC CL 3 applies to proceedings in a List commenced after 1 July 2026. Check the filing date.
  • The County Court of Victoria practice note was not opened. Leave County Court attendance blank until it is read.
