When to use it

Use after the settlement advice letter is given, when the client has decided to accept and can give instructions. Do not use it for a child or for a person whose settlement must be sanctioned or approved.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

AI may insert the offer terms and the net estimate from the advice letter the lawyer has approved; the lawyer checks the authority against that letter before the client signs.

AI may

  • Copy the amount, the costs treatment and the net estimate from the approved advice letter
  • Insert the client's name and the date of the advice letter

AI must not

  • Must not present this authority as a statutory declaration or an affidavit
  • Must not invite a child, or a person who cannot instruct, to sign it
  • Must not change the amount from the advice letter

The lawyer checks

  • The advice letter, including the s 177 or s 312 estimates, was given before this authority is signed
  • The client can instruct. If sanction or approval is required, this authority is not used
  • The net estimate is the same figure as the distribution statement, or the difference is explained in writing
