When to use it
Use when acting for a related victim who applies to Victim Assist Queensland after a homicide in Queensland, including a distress payment, recovery expenses or a dependency payment.
Used for these tasks
- Map a family claim after a homicide onto the published assistance amounts
- Record who may help a child apply for victims assistance, and where the money is held
- Place the published family figure next to the relationship label already marked
- Prepare the application to a state victims support scheme
- Apply for more time to lodge a victims assistance claim
- Work out whether another payment must be notified or assistance repaid
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
The tool may list records and expenses for the lawyer to check, and it writes nothing the related victim signs or declares.
AI may
- List relationship, police and expense documents already on the file, with dates and sources
- Build a schedule of receipts and other payments for the lawyer to check against the form's declaration questions
- Note whether the form's work, dangerous-driving and 3-year questions need an answer
AI must not
- Must not write the account of the death, the reasons for delay, or the answers about other payments
- Must not write anything in a signature or declaration block, including any block on pages that were not opened
- Must not decide eligibility, the distress or dependency amount, or whether an extension should be asked for
The lawyer checks
- Form 7 version 4, effective 14 September 2023, and every page returned, including blank pages
- The applicant is a related victim of a Queensland homicide, and each relative has a separate form
- Workers' compensation or CTP finalised where the form requires it, and the current insurer phone number
- Other payments declared, identity attached, and a child or administered person's distress and dependency payment directed as the form states section 94
- The lawyer is in Q12 and the client signs
