When to use it
Use when a person affected by violent crime in Victoria may apply to the Financial Assistance Scheme and the file needs the published time limit and victim category recorded before an application is prepared.
Used for these tasks
- Build the victims' claim eligibility and deadline register
- Check a victims' scheme decision against the categories and limits
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
The tool may enter the dates and the category the file suggests, and the lawyer decides eligibility and whether a late application is available.
AI may
- Record whether the violent act is said to have occurred in Victoria and whether it was reported to police.
- Enter the adult, child, or funeral-only time limit the page states, and the date that limit falls on.
- Record which victim description on the page is being considered, without deciding it.
- Note the offence examples and the two exclusions the page states.
AI must not
- Do not prepare the Financial Assistance Scheme application. The application form is a separate precedent.
- Do not decide that special circumstances exist for not reporting to police, or that a late application will be accepted. The page does not define those tests.
- Do not state dollar amounts. This page does not set them.
- Do not treat the offence list as closed. The page says the listed offences are examples.
The lawyer checks
- Confirm the time limit against the current 'Can I apply' page. It was updated on 30 June 2025 when read.
- Confirm the victim category and any special circumstance for not reporting to police.
- Confirm the crime is a violent offence in Victoria, and is not only property damage, theft, or a breach of an intervention order with no violent act.
- Read the assistance pages for the victim type before any amount is discussed. Those pages were not opened.
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
