Where this comes from
The official form is published by nsw.gov.au; this page is a completion guide. Last checked on 2026-10-23.
When to use it
Use when a primary victim, or a family victim of homicide, asks Victims Services for financial assistance with urgent safety, health or wellbeing costs. The application is the current Application for support. The later claim-for-expenses form was not opened.
Used for these tasks
- Prepare an immediate-needs or interim financial assistance request
- Index the police, medical and counselling records for a victims' application
- Check how the violence was reported before a victims application
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
The tool may list invoices already on the file against the costs the page names, and it writes nothing in the account of the violence or in the application.
AI may
- List each invoice, receipt or treatment plan already on the file, with its date and the cost it records
- Note which of the page's primary-victim documents are still missing
- Record the two-year date the page prints for an adult or a child, for the lawyer to check
AI must not
- Must not decide that a cost is an immediate need, or that the $5,000 cap applies to this person
- Must not write the person's account of what happened or how the incident affected them
- Must not describe the Immediate Needs Support Package or the claim-for-expenses form. Those pages were not opened
- Must not sign or lodge the application
The lawyer checks
- The cap, the examples and the time limits are read from the current immediate-needs page. It was opened on 23 October 2026. The eligibility page was not opened
- The page's examples are urgent costs: changing locks, moving house, an alarm, emergency medical or dental bills, and crime scene cleaning. The $5,000 figure is the page's "up to" amount
- A primary victim of domestic violence may be eligible for an Immediate Needs Support Package, on a link that was not opened. That package is not described here
- Further costs of the same act can be claimed for 5 years after lodgment, or until the available funds are used. A new act of violence or modern slavery needs a new application for support
- Family-victim documents are on the homicide support page, which was not opened
- The claim-for-expenses form linked for later invoices was not opened. Download it from the page when it is needed
- Section 25 and section 44 are pointed to by the page and were not opened. The page's own section 44 examples are the same two examples as on the recognition payment page
- Health and other personal information stays in a firm-controlled tool. Check confidentiality under ASCR r 9 and APP 11, and whether any breach is notifiable under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
