When to use it

Use before a USCIS filing or an RFE response that includes a document in another language. Do not use it to certify a translation, and do not use a summary as the translation.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

A tool may list foreign-language documents in the file and report which ones have no companion translation.

AI may

  • Pair each foreign-language file with the English file the lawyer has stored beside it
  • Quote the certificate's words if a certificate is already in the file
  • Flag a document that is described as a summary

AI must not

  • Must not certify that a translation is accurate
  • Must not create the certificate
  • Must not accept a summary as the translation
  • Must not translate the legal conclusion in the covering letter

The lawyer checks

  • Each foreign-language document is paired with a full English translation or is held back
  • The certificate tracks 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): complete, accurate, and the translator is competent in that language
  • A summary is not filed as the translation
  • The translator's name on the certificate matches the person who signed it
