When to use it
Use at the start of every immigration matter after the initial consultation. Choose variant A for registered migration agents (Code of Conduct) or variant B for Australian legal practitioners (Uniform Law costs disclosure). Do not use one variant for the other: the regulators and requirements differ.
How AI may be used
AI may adapt the scope and fee schedule from the adviser's file note and produce plain-language or translated summaries for checking. The adviser confirms the variant, fees, scope and the accuracy of the AI clause, and obtains the client's written choice.
AI may
- Draft the scope of work and fee schedule from the adviser's settled instructions
- Produce a plain-language summary of the agreement for the client
- Check the agreement against the Code of Conduct s 42 content list (variant A) or the Uniform Law s 174 disclosure items (variant B)
AI must not
- Must not choose the variant or set fees
- Must not describe AI tools or data handling that the practice has not confirmed
- Must not be given the client's personal details before the client's written consent to AI use is recorded
The lawyer checks
- The right variant is used for the adviser's registration or practising status
- Fees are fair and reasonable and the estimate is realistic
- The consumer guide is given (variant A) and the costs disclosure rights are included (variant B)
- The client's AI choice is recorded and followed on the file
