When to use it

Use when a US file needs a chronology of presence and filings for a benefit request or an RFE. Do not use it as a finding that the client is in or out of status, and do not swear it.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

A tool may sort dates that are already printed on notices and passports in the file.

AI may

  • Enter one row per date printed on a document, with the document name
  • Keep a client's remembered date in a separate row marked as the client's statement
  • Flag two documents that state different dates for the same event

AI must not

  • Must not conclude that the client is in status or out of status
  • Must not add a day-count for unlawful presence
  • Must not convert the chronology into a declaration
  • Must not drop a conflicting date

The lawyer checks

  • Every row is a document or is marked as the client's statement
  • Conflicts are shown, not resolved by the tool
  • The filing-date row for the pending request is present, because eligibility is tested at filing
  • The chronology is unsigned
