When to use it
Use when deciding what financial report a charity lodges with the ACNC for a current reporting period. It is not the Annual Information Statement and it does not calculate revenue.
Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may place the revenue figure the lawyer enters into the published band and list the report type that band requires.
AI may
- Select small, medium or large from the revenue figure entered for a reporting period starting with the 2022 Annual Information Statement
- List whether an annual financial report is optional or required for that band
- Flag a file that still uses the pre-2022 thresholds
AI must not
- Must not calculate revenue or decide what is revenue rather than other income
- Must not decide whether the charity is a reporting entity or which accounting standard applies
- Must not treat a Basic Religious Charity as if the ordinary medium or large row applied
The lawyer checks
- The period is one covered by the 2022 thresholds, not the 2021 and earlier thresholds on the same page
- Revenue is not replaced by total income. The page says revenue plus other income equals total income
- A medium charity is reviewed or audited, and a large charity is audited, unless a footnote on the page applies and has been read
- The governing document and any grant deed are checked for a stricter audit requirement than the ACNC row
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
