How AI is used
Extract the stated diagnosis and any whole person impairment figure from the reports the lawyer supplies, with the page of the report. Do not assess impairment and do not choose which guideline applies.
What the lawyer must review
  • Check each extracted figure against the report page it cites
  • For workers compensation, use the SIRA guidelines, fourth edition, reissued 1 March 2021
  • For motor accident damages, use Motor Accident Injuries Act sections 4.11 and 1.7, not the Civil Liability Act table
  • Keep the reports in a firm-controlled tool (ASCR r 9, APP 11)

The work product

Forum. New South Wales workers compensation or motor accident impairment assessment

Produce. A table of stated diagnoses and impairment figures, each tied to a report page.

Have ready. The medicolegal and treating reports the lawyer has selected; The scheme the lawyer has named; The current impairment guideline for that scheme.

Example of the limit. Illustrative example: One report states 11% for an orthopaedic injury and another states 8% for a psychological injury after the same crash. The tool does not add them. Section 1.7 keeps those assessments separate.

Stop and hand it back when

  • The report does not state a figure and the tool would be inventing one.
  • The scheme has not been identified, so the wrong threshold would be applied.
