When to use it

Use when alcohol will be sold or supplied at a genuine, infrequent event and selling alcohol is not the sole reason for the event. If the event is a large private function, a town show or race meeting, or a fundraising event run for a not-for-profit, check whether a single-function limited licence fits better.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

AI may assemble the document list and a first draft of the public-interest answers from the event plan the organiser has confirmed. The lawyer checks that alcohol is not the sole purpose and that every control matches the plan of management.

AI may

  • Turn the event plan into the public-interest headings on the Liquor & Gaming NSW page
  • List missing documents against the all-applicant, individual and organisation lists
  • Flag if the event looks like one the page says is unlikely to be approved as a special event

AI must not

  • Must not invent patron numbers, council support, security numbers or food service
  • Must not say a fee amount unless it is copied from the current liquor fee schedule
  • Must not lodge the application

The lawyer checks

  • Selling alcohol is not the sole reason for the event, and the event is infrequent or temporary and genuine
  • A large-scale event of 2,000 or more is lodged at least 28 days before the function, or the late fee is accepted
  • RSA evidence covers the licensee and everyone who will serve, including volunteers and security with crowd control duties
  • The licensed area is defined, liquor is in opened containers, and takeaway is excluded
