Where this comes from
The official form is published by accesscanberra.act.gov.au; this page is a completion guide. Last checked on 2026-10-22.
When to use it
Use on a family file when an adult's name is to be registered in the ACT, including where a marriage overseas may not be accepted and the page says a registered change may be required. Marriage in Australia usually does not need this registration. The person must be 18 or older, with a birth registered in the ACT or living in the ACT. The tool does not write the application.
Used for these tasks
- Draft a parenting plan or parenting orders from the arrangements sheet
- Turn existing parenting orders into a practical arrangements sheet
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may check the page's marriage and residency points against the file. The lawyer writes the application and checks it before it is lodged.
AI may
- Check that the person is 18 or older and that the birth or residence test on the page is met
- Flag an Australian marriage, where the page says a registered change is usually not required
- Flag a restricted person, who needs Director-General approval under the Act the page names
AI must not
- Must not draft the application or the reason for the change
- Must not draft a parenting plan or parenting orders
- Must not treat 20260630 in the file name as a form number or a date of effect
- Must not invent a fee
- Must not sign or lodge the application
The lawyer checks
- Only one registered change is sought in a 12-month period, as the page states
- The page does not call the application a statutory declaration. If the current file is one, the tool writes nothing in it
- A restricted person is a person serving a sentence of imprisonment or on parole, and the approval is from the Director-General of the Justice and Community Safety Directorate
- The fee page was not opened
- The court's or tribunal's current index is checked before assuming a generative-AI practice direction applies. None was stated on the page opened for this guide.
