When to use it

Give with the costs agreement or at the first meeting in every family law matter, and again if the firm changes its AI tools. Adapt the tone for clients experiencing family violence, and give it in a safe way.

How AI may be used

AI may help produce plain-language or translated versions of this notice for the lawyer to check. The firm's actual AI practices must be described accurately, so a lawyer confirms every statement before it is given.

AI may

  • Produce an easy-English or translated version of the approved notice for checking by a lawyer and, for translations, a qualified translator
  • Check the notice for jargon and reading level

AI must not

  • Must not describe AI tools, data locations or safeguards the firm does not actually have
  • Must not be personalised by putting the client's or children's details into a public AI tool
  • Must not replace a conversation with the client about consent and safety

The lawyer checks

  • Every statement about the firm's tools and data handling is true today
  • The client has been told how to withdraw or limit consent
  • Delivery of the notice is safe for the client (no shared email or devices)

Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
