Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- From the accident and injury papers, record the eligibility gates on icare's page and do not decide them. Record the accident date against the child and adult dates, whether the injury is one of the severe injury types listed, and that an interim participant is accepted for two years.
- What the lawyer must review
- The scheme is no-fault. Fault in the accident is not the test on the page that was opened
- The lawyer decides whether the accident meets the Act. The Act was not read section by section
- A medical specialist certificate is part of the application. The tool does not complete it
- Do not treat lifetime care as a substitute for statutory benefits or damages

The work product
Forum. NSW Lifetime Care and Support Scheme
Produce. A gate sheet recording the accident date, the injury type and the unanswered eligibility questions.
Have ready. Accident date and age at the accident; Injury papers selected by the lawyer; Any existing statutory benefits claim.
Example of the limit. Illustrative example: An adult was injured in a motor accident in 2024 and has a brain injury. The sheet records the adult date gate and that a specialist certificate and the Guidelines criteria are still to be met. It does not say the person is eligible.
Stop and hand it back when
- The accident date or the age at the accident is unknown.
- The injury is not one of the types listed and the lawyer has not said it is an equivalent impairment.
- Someone proposes to tell the person they have been accepted.

Checklist
- The page asks whether the motor accident in NSW was on or after 1 October 2006 for a child under 16, or on or after 1 October 2007 for an adult.
- The injury must have been caused by the motor accident, and the accident must meet the legislative criteria. Those criteria were not opened. The injury must meet the criteria in the Lifetime Care and Support Guidelines.
- The severe injury types listed are spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputations, burns and permanent blindness. The page names the assessment tools: FIM and WeeFIM, the ASIA scale, percentage loss of limb, and legal blindness in both eyes.
- An accepted person is an interim participant for two years and may then apply to be a lifetime participant. Where the person is a participant, the CTP insurer must notify the Lifetime Care and Support Authority when it issues a liability notice.

The scheme pays reasonable and necessary treatment, rehabilitation and care. It is not a damages claim.
The medical certificate is completed by the specialist. The tool does not write it. Health records stay in a firm-controlled tool.
