Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- From the assessment notice and the date it was given, using a firm-controlled tool, record the percentage the notice states and that section 186 runs 20 business days after the notice is given. The pages say receipt. Do not draft the request, and do not write the last calendar day.
- What the lawyer must review
- You decide whether to dispute the assessment, and you write the request.
- Section 186 runs 20 business days after the notice is given, and only if no tribunal has assessed it.
- A tribunal decision is final. Do not treat it as open to a rehearing on the merits.
- Use a firm-controlled tool. Check ASCR r 9, APP 11 and any notifiable breach.

WorkSafe says that for a physical injury the worker can ask for another doctor or a Medical Assessment Tribunal review, and must tell the insurer within 20 business days of receiving the assessment notice. WorkCover also says to let it know within 20 business days of receiving the assessment notice. Section 186(2) instead runs 20 business days after the original notice is given, and section 186(1) applies only if a tribunal has not already assessed the degree. Section 186(3) requires the insurer to decide a request for another assessment within 10 business days after receiving the request. WorkSafe says the insurer decides within ten days of the request. WorkCover says within 10 days. Neither page calls those days business days. If the worker still disagrees after a second doctor, a final tribunal review can be asked for, and that decision is final.
A psychiatric permanent-impairment assessment is undertaken only by the tribunal, and WorkSafe says that decision is final. The tool does not draft the request. The impairment guide was not opened.
