When to use it

Use when a veterans' decision may go to the Veterans' Review Board or the Tribunal, or when permanent impairment evidence is being gathered. It does not draft the reasons for disagreeing and it does not rate an impairment.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

AI may enter the decision date and the Act named in the letter into this checklist; the practitioner chooses the path and writes any reasons separately.

AI may

  • Record the decision date against both time-limit blocks on the Department's page, without merging them
  • List the GARP M chapters the policy manual names, as a contents list for the evidence
  • Record the Veterans' Review Board address and the dates of its correspondence

AI must not

  • Must not draft the veteran's reasons for disagreeing
  • Must not give an impairment rating or say which table applies to a score
  • Must not invent a Veterans' Review Board hearing or alternative-dispute timetable; the page that was read does not set one out

The lawyer checks

  • The decision date is placed before or from 21 April 2025, and the Act is the one in the decision letter
  • VEA income support and qualifying service are not sent to the Veterans' Review Board on this pathway
  • Both Department time-limit blocks are read before a DRCA period of 30 days or 12 months is chosen
  • Permanent impairment evidence is described by diagnosis and function, not by a rating

Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
