DVA file: index of service, medical and claim records
Index of the record types the Department of Veterans' Affairs says personal information can sit in, and where a summary of service or a current claim can be looked at first.

When to use it
Use when a veterans' claim file needs an index of service, medical and claim records, before anyone asks DVA or Defence for documents.
Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
The tool may list the record types and tick what the file already holds, and it does not decide a claim or request documents.
AI may
- List each record type the DVA page names, and tick whether this file already has it.
- Record whether a service summary was looked at in MyService, and that a full history is a Defence request.
- Record whether current-claim information was looked at in MyService or with the delegate before a personal information request.
- Leave the request itself to the separate request checklist.
AI must not
- Do not treat MyService as a full service history. The page says DVA holds only records previously provided, and that a full history is requested from Defence.
- Do not say section 59 of the DRCA or section 331 of the MRCA does more than the sentence on the page. The Acts were not opened.
- Do not mark a record as held because it might exist. Tick it only when the file has it.
- Do not use the 2014 Privacy Act compilation linked from the page. That compilation was not opened and is not a current-law source.
The lawyer checks
- Confirm the record list against the current personal-information page. It was last updated on 1 October 2025 when read.
- Confirm consent before a family member or advocate is treated as able to see the records.
- Keep claim documents that came from Defence separate from documents the veteran supplied.
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
