When to use it
Use when a lawyer wants to anonymise a matter document before it is added to the precedent bank or a shared know-how set. It does not decide privilege. It does not say that a method achieves de-identification.
Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may highlight names, contact details, and images in a document the lawyer has opened inside an approved system; the lawyer decides whether the person remains identifiable and what is kept.
AI may
- Highlight names, email addresses, phone numbers, and images in a document already inside the firm's approved system
- Leave a row for each identifier the lawyer chooses to remove or keep
AI must not
- Must not send the document to a publicly available generative AI tool in order to anonymise it
- Must not treat deletion of a name as the end of the worksheet
- Must not certify that the result is de-identified
The lawyer checks
- A false or generated passage about an identifiable person is still treated as personal information
- What remains is no more than the firm needs for the precedent
- The original stays out of any public generative tool, including a tool asked to do the redaction
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
