Training outline: checking an AI output before it is kept or used
An outline for training lawyers on the OAIC's ongoing-assurance points: permitted and prohibited uses, a human check of outputs that contain personal information, and marking an output as a probabilistic result rather than a fact.

When to use it
Use when training lawyers who use an approved AI tool on precedents or know-how. It is not the prompt-library policy and it is not the citation policy. It does not authorise a new tool.
Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may list the training points and record who attended; the lawyer decides the permitted uses and checks any output that is kept.
AI may
- Set out the agenda from this outline and record attendance
- Remind the user that an output kept in know-how is marked as an AI output
AI must not
- Must not use a client document as the training exercise in a public tool
- Must not tell lawyers that a fluent output is accurate
- Must not adopt a permitted-use list the firm has not approved
The lawyer checks
- The session states the firm's permitted and prohibited uses, or says they are not yet approved
- APP 10 is explained as a human check, commensurate with the risk, and not as a disclaimer in place of that check
- A decision that may have a legal or similarly significant effect is not left to the tool
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
