When to use it

Use when a practice group wants a decision recorded for later retrieval. The note points to the official judgment. It is not a substitute for reading it, and it is not a document to file.

Used for these tasks

Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.

How AI may be used

In an approved tool, AI may draft a note from the judgment text the lawyer supplies, and the lawyer checks every holding and quotation against that judgment before the note is published.

AI may

  • Draft section headings and a proposed statement of the holding from the judgment text supplied in an approved tool.
  • List paragraph numbers where a specified defined term appears.
  • List precedents in the bank that cite the same Act section, for the owner to consider.

AI must not

  • Must not add a quotation, a paragraph number or a holding that is not in the text supplied.
  • Must not publish the note to the know-how collection or to AI retrieval.
  • Must not summarise the judgment from memory or from a news article when the judgment has not been supplied.

The lawyer checks

  • The lawyer read the judgment, not only the draft note.
  • Every quotation and paragraph number matches the official text.
  • The note states the court, the date, and whether the decision is on appeal, if that is known from the sources opened.

Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
