When to use it
Use when a precedent is reviewed, when a cited Act is amended, and when a sweep of the precedent bank looks for stale references. One worksheet can cover a batch. A row is not closed until a person has opened the official source.
Used for these tasks
- Check a precedent bank for outdated legislation references
- Update a precedent after a law change
- Monitor regulator and court AI rules for the know-how library
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
A tool may list citations and the proposition the precedent states for each, and a person opens the official source and records whether the proposition still holds.
AI may
- List each Act, regulation, rule, practice note and decision named in the precedent, with the paragraph where it appears.
- Flag a citation whose title or year does not match the current compilation title on an official register the person will open.
- List precedents that cite an instrument the person has marked as amended.
AI must not
- Must not mark a citation as correct, or close a row.
- Must not replace a section number or a case name.
- Must not publish a revised precedent.
The lawyer checks
- Each closed row names the official page opened and the date.
- A citation that could not be found is marked under review and removed from AI retrieval until it is fixed.
- The person who closed the row is named, and is not the tool.
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
