Where this comes from

When to use it
Use before a person in New South Wales acquires a native animal that needs a biodiversity conservation licence. Animals that can be kept without a licence, and animals to be kept in another place, are outside this application.
Used for these tasks
- Retrieve the approved keeper category for a repeat native animal on the firm list
- Check whether keeping a native animal needs a wildlife licence
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may match the species the lawyer names to the licence class described on the page; the lawyer decides whether a licence is required and submits the application.
AI may
- Set out the eligibility and fee printed on the page for the class the lawyer nominates
- Note the age rule and whether an advanced class needs two years of experience
- Remind the lawyer that online applications are no longer processed immediately
AI must not
- Must not say that a species may be kept, or that paying the fee grants the licence
- Must not use a New South Wales class for an animal that will be kept in another place
- Must not submit the application
The lawyer checks
- The species is on the current NSW Native Animal Keepers Species List for the class applied for
- The applicant meets the age rule on the page. Advanced class is over 18 with at least two years of experience on a lower class
- The fee is checked on the day. Paying it does not grant the licence
- Forty-one native bird species can be kept without a licence. Confirm the species is on that list before telling the client not to apply
