AI agent and connector permissions register for law firms (tools that act, not just answer)
Register for AI agents and connectors that can act (read files, draft, send, file, book): what each may read and do, which actions need a lawyer's approval first, and how actions are logged.

When to use it
Use before connecting an AI agent or connector, such as an MCP connector, to email, the document system, court e-filing or the firm's knowledge base, and whenever its permissions change. Pair it with the approved AI tools register.
How to use this precedent
Check that it fits the matter: read “When to use it” and the places it applies to.
Log in to read the full text. It is free.
Adapt it to the matter, filling in each placeholder shown in [square brackets].
Use AI only as far as the Red level allows. “How AI may be used” says what AI may and must not do.
Before it goes out, a lawyer checks it against current law and each point under “The lawyer checks”.
How AI may be used
No agent or connector may send, file, pay, sign or communicate with a court, a client or another party without a lawyer's prior approval of that specific action. A tool may help maintain the register but not grant permissions.
AI may
Keep the register up to date from approved change requests
Flag a connector whose scopes exceed what the register allows
AI must not
Must not grant, widen or approve any permission
Must not send, file, pay, sign or book anything on the firm's behalf without a recorded lawyer approval
Must not record case events in a tribunal hearing where the tribunal bans it
The lawyer checks
Each permission is the least the task needs
Every 'act' permission has a named approver and a log
The connector's data access respects ethical walls and client confidentiality
