Check VA health care priority from a service-connected disability rating
Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- List the service-connected rating, whether VA has found the veteran unemployable, and the discharge reason supplied by the lawyer. Do not assign a priority group.
- What the lawyer must review
- The VA eligibility page says a veteran may have enhanced eligibility, and a higher priority group, if they receive compensation for a service-connected disability, or were discharged for a disability caused or made worse by service. The priority-groups page assigns the highest priority to service-connected disabilities. It places a rating of 50 percent or more, or a service-connected disability VA has found makes the veteran unable to work, in priority group 1, and a rating of 30 or 40 percent in priority group 2. The same page says some groups are eligible for care for the service-connected condition only. Match the rating to the group on that page.
