- 20 C.F.R. § 404.909 says the Social Security Administration will reconsider an initial determination if a party files a written request within 60 days after the date the person receives notice, or within an extended period. A late request can be accepted if the person shows good cause under § 404.911. You confirm the date of receipt, you check every reason against the letter and the file, and you do not send a request that argues a fact the file does not contain. This is not an Authorised Review Officer request.
