Checklist
- Confirm the applicant is a person entitled to apply under the local statute — the person in need of protection, a police officer, a parent or guardian, or a person with written consent — that any authority or consent is on the file, and that a respondent under 18 is not being filed in the adult jurisdiction.
- Check the relationship pleaded against the statutory definition; a housemate, a carer, a relative by kinship and a former partner's new partner are inside some schemes and outside others.
- Check every condition sought against the prescribed list for this scheme and against where the client actually lives, works and collects the children from, before it is filed.
- Decide whether a child should be named as a protected person, and check that naming the child does not conflict with a current parenting order or cut across contact the client wants preserved.
- Confirm no protected address, school, workplace or telephone detail appears anywhere in the pack that will be served on the respondent.
