Checklist
- Read the statement back to the deponent in their own language, record any interpreter's involvement, and strike anything the deponent does not adopt as their own account.
- Check each allegation against the chronology and the annexure it relies on, and mark as recollection only any allegation with no document behind it.
- Check that no sentence, phrase or paragraph came from anywhere but the deponent — not from the police narrative, not from a precedent statement and not from another file.
- Check the jurat, the witnessing requirement, the annexure or exhibit markings and whether this scheme requires an affidavit, written grounds or sworn oral evidence on the return date.
- Check the statement for the protected person's current address, workplace, school and telephone details and for third-party information that should not be served, and confirm the version served is the version sworn.
