When to use it
Use for contributors, interviewees, extras and members of the public who appear in a documentary, advertisement, sports broadcast feature, podcast or social media production and are not engaged under a separate performer or employment agreement. Not for professional performers engaged under an industry agreement, and not as a substitute for child employment approvals.
Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may fill the production details into the approved release and keep the release log; the producer or lawyer checks each signed release for a minor, a restricted use or a changed term before the footage is used.
AI may
- Insert the production name, producer details, uses and dates into the approved form
- Translate the plain-language summary for a contributor, for checking by a qualified translator before it is relied on
- Keep a release log matching each signed release to the footage, image or interview it covers and flag gaps
AI must not
- Must not change the grant, the moral rights consent or the privacy notice without lawyer approval
- Must not treat an unsigned, incomplete or altered release as valid, or match faces to releases by facial recognition without the producer's approved process
- Must not use the release to create AI-generated or altered depictions of the contributor unless the AI use option is ticked
The lawyer checks
- The form has been checked once at setup for the production's uses, territory and media, and any AI or synthetic-use option is deliberate
- Each signed release: contributor identified, signature present, any crossed-out terms noted, and a parent or guardian signature if under 18
- Child employment approvals obtained where the contributor is a child engaged for the production in a state that requires them
- The privacy collection notice matches the producer's privacy policy if the producer is an APP entity
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
