Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may prepare the first draft and the rights schedule from the agreed deal points and check the chain-of-title documents for gaps; a lawyer settles the rights granted and reserved, the moral rights consent and the warranties, and confirms who owns the copyright.
AI may
- Populate the option fee, option period, extension, purchase price and credit terms from the deal memo
- Compare the author's publishing agreement and any earlier options against the rights being granted and list conflicts or reversions to check
- Build a chain-of-title table (work, author, owner, earlier grants, registration or search results) from documents supplied
AI must not
- Must not conclude that the author still owns the screen rights; the publishing agreement and earlier grants must be read by the lawyer
- Must not broaden the moral rights consent or the rights granted beyond the deal the author has agreed
- Must not summarise or reproduce the literary work itself in a tool outside the approved environment
The lawyer checks
- Copyright owner confirmed from the publishing agreement and any reversion, with no outstanding option or grant to a third party
- Rights granted, rights reserved (for example print, stage, audio and sequel rights) and holdbacks match the deal memo
- Moral rights consent under s 195AW is in writing, specific to the production and acceptable to the author
- Option exercise mechanics, extension payment dates and the power of attorney are workable and the purchase agreement is annexed in agreed form
