When to use it
Use when a publisher, label or independent artist licenses music for synchronisation with visual media. It covers both the composition and the master only where the licensor controls both; otherwise use separate licences. Public performance is licensed separately.
How AI may be used
AI can produce the cue and usage schedule and compare the licensee's paper with this licence, but the AI reservation, moral rights consents and the split between composition and master rights need a lawyer's review.
AI may
- Turn the cue sheet and scene description into the Licensed Use schedule.
- Compare the licensee's draft with this licence and list departures.
- Check the chain of title documents supplied for gaps (writers, publishers, label, featured performers).
AI must not
- Must not be given the licensed recording, stems or lyrics.
- Must not decide who controls the composition or master rights.
- Must not generate alternative versions, edits or sound-alikes.
The lawyer checks
- The licensor controls the rights it grants (each writer's share and the master), or the licence is split.
- The AI reservation is expressed in the licence and, for online content, in machine-readable form where the EU opt-out matters.
- Moral rights consents are limited to the edits described.
- Public performance and any mechanical rights are dealt with separately.
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
