When to use it
Use when a club, league, event organiser or team grants a brand naming, signage, apparel, digital or hospitality rights for a fee or in kind. Check the governing body and venue rules and any existing sponsor exclusivity first. For an individual athlete's name and image, use the athlete image rights licence instead.
How AI may be used
AI may build the rights schedule and first draft from the term sheet and the rights holder's inventory; a lawyer checks every grant against existing sponsor exclusivities, governing body and venue rules before it is signed.
AI may
- Turn the term sheet and rights inventory into the Schedule of rights, fees, make-goods and deliverable dates
- Compare the sponsor category against the list of existing sponsors and categories the rights holder supplies and flag overlaps
- List every approval, notice and deadline in the draft so the account manager can diarise them
AI must not
- Must not decide that a category clash, venue clean-site rule or broadcaster restriction does not apply
- Must not draft or settle the morals, integrity or termination triggers without the lawyer choosing them for this deal
- Must not generate sponsor logos, athlete images or marketing copy for use under the agreement
- Must not upload unsigned commercial terms to a tool whose terms allow training on inputs or retention outside the approved environment
The lawyer checks
- Category exclusivity checked against every current sponsor, the league and governing body rules and the venue hire agreement
- Each right in the Schedule is one the rights holder actually controls (venue signage, broadcast, apparel, player image rights)
- Fee, GST, make-good and termination refund mechanics agree with the term sheet and with each other
- Morals and integrity triggers, notice periods and termination consequences have been chosen deliberately for this sponsor and sport
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
