When to use it
Use after a disclosure request has gone out, or when material arrives, in a US criminal case. Do not use the log as a motion.
Used for these tasks
- Build a disclosure and unused-material tracker
- Summarise the police brief and list proof issues
- Prepare a missing-brief and exhibit request list
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
A tool may add a row when a document is logged into the file, and copy the Bates range or the file name.
AI may
- Open a row per item received, with the date and the sender
- Match an item to a category in the request letter
- List request categories that still have no item
AI must not
- Must not label an item exculpatory as the tool's conclusion
- Must not draft a motion from an empty row
- Must not omit an item because it looks unhelpful
The lawyer checks
- Every item in the file is a row or is listed as not yet logged
- The lawyer, not the tool, marks whether an item is favorable
- Federal Rule 16 rows are absent from a state file
- Outstanding rows are the source for any chase letter
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
