Build the certificate-of-inspection expiry and suspension register
Key facts

- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- From the certificate and the inspection record, record the expiry, whether section 3307 states a yearly or a five-year interval for that class, and any suspension, revocation or temporary certificate noted on the file. Do not decide that the vessel is exempt.
- What the lawyer must review
- Section 3309 issues the certificate of inspection to the vessel when an inspection under section 3307 finds compliance, and allows a temporary certificate in place of a regular one. Section 3307 states the yearly and five-year intervals. Section 3313 lets the certificate be suspended or revoked when the vessel is not in compliance, and requires revocation if an unsafe condition ordered corrected is not corrected at once. These sections do not describe a transfer of the certificate when the vessel is sold. The register records the expiry, the statutory interval, and any suspension or revocation the file already notes. You decide whether an exemption applies. Section 3306(e) was not opened.
