Build the certificate-of-inspection and complement register

- How AI is used
- From each certificate of inspection, record the vessel, the expiry date printed on it, whether section 3307 states a yearly or a five-year inspection interval for that class, and the complement of licensed individuals and crew the certificate states. Do not decide that the vessel is exempt from inspection.
- What the lawyer must review
- Section 3309 requires a certificate of inspection when an inspection under section 3307 finds compliance. Section 3307 requires an initial inspection before service, then at least once a year for a passenger vessel, a nautical school vessel, and a small passenger vessel allowed to carry more than 12 passengers on a foreign voyage, and at least once every 5 years for any other vessel subject to inspection. Section 8101(a) requires the certificate to state the complement considered necessary for safe operation. Subsection (d) says the vessel may not be operated without that complement. Subsection (b) lets the Secretary modify the complement by endorsement. The register takes those fields from the certificate. You check a change of employment, a modified complement, and a vessel that may not be one part B inspects. The older two-year and three-year intervals appear only in the revision note, not in the current text.
