How AI is used
Copy any general-average clause the bill of lading already contains, and the page. Write no average figure and no security amount.
What the lawyer must review
The Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, the statutory note to 46 USC section 30701, states that nothing in the Act prevents insertion in a bill of lading of any lawful provision regarding general average. The Act states no formula and no security amount. It applies to carriage to or from ports of the United States in foreign trade. It does not apply to charter parties. It does not apply to carriage between United States ports unless the bill expressly states that it is subject to the Act. You decide whether the copied clause is lawful. Opinion 512: check the copy against the bill.
