- How AI is used
- Extract the date, the aircraft, the operator, and the facts the lawyer marks against the § 830.5 categories: death or serious injury, and the listed failures. Do not draft the notification and do not say whether notice is required.
- What the lawyer must review
- You decide and the operator notifies. 49 CFR § 830.5 is the immediate-notification rule. Section 830.2 defines an aircraft accident as an occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft, between boarding with the intention of flight and disembarking, in which any person suffers death or serious injury, or the aircraft receives substantial damage. Fatal injury means death within 30 days of the accident. Section 830.5 also covers an aircraft that is overdue and believed to have been in an accident. Section 830.15 requires a later report on Board Form 6120.1/2. You read § 830.5 in full before the call, because the list of incidents is longer than the accident definition.
