When to use it
Use when a grant is in place and the lawyer needs Legal Aid NSW to approve further work items or a disbursement. Send it before doing work that the current grant does not cover.
Used for these tasks
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may list work already recorded on the file and draft the estimate rows from the lawyer's hours. The lawyer decides what further work to seek and sends the request.
AI may
- List dated file entries that show work already done under the current grant
- Turn the lawyer's list of proposed next steps into estimate rows with hours left blank for the lawyer
- Remind the file of the signed-copy and inbox steps published by Legal Aid NSW
AI must not
- Must not choose the work items or the disbursement, or state that the extension will be granted
- Must not invent a Grants Online field, a fee scale rate, or a stage cap
- Must not send the request or tell the client that further work is funded
The lawyer checks
- Each item sought is outside the current grant and is described so a grants officer can see why it is needed now
- The estimate is the lawyer's, with assumptions stated, and it matches the current fee scale
- A signed copy of the aid application is on the file, or the reason it could not be signed is in a file note
- The determination will be read in Grants Online. Work does not start on the new items until it is approved
