Where this comes from
The official form is published by art.gov.au; this page is a completion guide. Last checked on 2026-10-18.
When to use it
Use when the time for applying to the Administrative Review Tribunal for review of a decision has passed and the applicant needs the Tribunal to extend it under s 19 of the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024, or when acting for a decision-maker who wants to oppose an extension.
Used for these tasks
- Build a review-rights and time-limit table from the decision letter
- Check an ART submission against the Generative AI Practice Direction checklist
Each task page says how far AI may help with the task and what the lawyer must review.
How AI may be used
AI may build the dated chronology of the decision, notification and delay from the documents and check the application is complete; the lawyer writes the explanation for the delay and checks each application.
AI may
- Build a chronology of the decision, the date it was notified, and each step taken since, with a source for every date
- Calculate how late the application is, for the lawyer to confirm against the statutory period for that decision
- Check the form and attachments are complete
AI must not
- Must not write the applicant's explanation of the delay or any statement of the applicant's circumstances
- Must not assess the merits of the review or the prejudice to the decision-maker
The lawyer checks
- The correct application period for the decision, and the date it started to run
- A full and honest explanation of the whole period of delay, supported by documents
- Why the review has merit and any prejudice to the decision-maker or others
- The substantive application for review lodged with the extension application
Method: how the Green, Yellow and Red levels are decided. This is guidance for planning, not legal advice.
