How AI is used
Record when and to whom the crime was reported, and any reason given for not cooperating with a law-enforcement request. Do not decide eligibility.
What the lawyer must review
34 U.S.C. § 20102(b)(2) requires an eligible crime victim compensation program to promote victim cooperation with the reasonable requests of law enforcement authorities, except if a program determines such cooperation may be impacted due to a victim's age, physical condition, psychological state, cultural or linguistic barriers, or any other health or safety concern that jeopardizes the victim's wellbeing. The section does not state a number of hours within which a report must be made. 18 U.S.C. § 3771 gives rights in a federal criminal case, including the right to confer with the attorney for the Government, and is not the compensation-program rule. You apply the state program's reporting rule, which was not opened, beside subsection (b)(2).
