- You decide whether service of a contractual notice was good. Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 4 is about service of a summons and complaint. It is not the rule for a notice under a sale contract. No contract-notice statute was opened. The method is the method the clause states. Model Rule 1.4(a)(3) applies when you tell the client whether you have checked that clause. Formal Opinion 512 requires you to verify the quote. An address that is not in the clause or in a later written change in the file is not added.
