Record whether an issued building permit can be renewed

- How AI is used
- From the permit, record the issue date, the stated expiry, and whether the expiry is tied to insurance, a licence, or one year from issuance. Record whether the permit is still active or has expired with activity on the application inside two years of expiry. Do not say the renewal has been granted. Do not draft the renewal.
- What the lawyer must review
- The lawyer decides whether a renewal is open. The NYC Department of Buildings page says permit renewals are issued on active permits and on permits that have expired but have activity on the application within two years of the expiration date. Permits issued in DOB NOW: Build expire on the earliest of the general-liability, disability, or workers compensation insurance expiry, the licence expiry, or one year from issuance. If the shorter date is an insurance or licence expiry, the permit is extended automatically at no cost when that insurance or licence is renewed before the expiry. The renewal information must be submitted at least five days in advance. If the insurance or licence lapses, the licensee renews the permit and pays the 130 dollar fee. If the permit expires because more than one year has passed since issuance, that fee is also required. This is not a one-year extension, for good cause, of a shortened land-use consent.
