- The template fields are fixed at setup, and each later use is a copy of words already printed on the bill. You confirm the six fields before the template is used. The Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, the statutory note to 46 USC section 30701, applies to contracts for carriage of goods by sea to or from ports of the United States in foreign trade. A contract of carriage under the Act is one covered by a bill of lading or similar document of title. The Act does not apply to carriage between United States ports unless the bill expressly states that it is subject to the Act. The Act does not apply to charter parties, but a bill issued under a charter party must comply from the moment it regulates the relations between the carrier and a holder. The template does not apply the package limit, the notice-of-loss rule, or the suit period. Opinion 512: a person checks the copy against the bill.
