Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- From the certificate, the inspection record and the voyage papers, list the expiry, whether the papers say the vessel is on a foreign voyage, any written order to correct or to cease operating, and whether a temporary certificate is on the file. Do not grant an extension.
- What the lawyer must review
- Section 3313(b) allows the vessel to be required to cease operating at once when it is not in compliance with its certificate or with a standard under this part, and allows the certificate to be suspended or revoked. Section 3314(a) lets a vessel whose certificate expires on a foreign voyage complete the voyage to a United States port within 30 days of expiry without the penalties for operating without a certificate. Subsection (b) requires a new certificate before sailing from a United States port on a foreign voyage if the certificate would expire within 15 days, unless the voyage is scheduled to finish before expiry. Subsection (c) is a limited permission for a foreign passenger vessel on a regularly established line. Section 3309(b) allows a temporary certificate in place of a regular one. No domestic-voyage grace period was in the sections opened. You decide whether the vessel must stop.
