- How AI is used
- From the replacement application, mark the credential type, whether the application describes the circumstances of the loss, and whether a medical certificate is requested with the duplicate. Do not write any part of the application.
- What the lawyer must review
- 46 CFR section 10.229(a) says that upon request and without examination a mariner may be issued a duplicate credential and medical certificate after submitting an application with an affidavit describing the circumstances of the loss. The Coast Guard issues the duplicate only after confirming the validity of the mariner's credentials and of the mariner's transportation worker identification credential. The duplicate has the same authority, wording and expiration date as the lost credential. A loss by shipwreck or other casualty, as subsection (c) defines it, or a personal loss associated with a federally declared natural disaster, is free of charge. Any other duplicate requires the fee in section 10.219, which was not opened. An application from an alien must also meet section 10.221, which was not opened. Duplicate applications are not subject to a criminal record review. You decide whether the pack matches section 10.229 before it is lodged. Do not import a first-aid or medical-declaration rule from another certificate scheme.
