- How AI is used
- Record whether the decision is from the Marine Safety Center, and whether the file describes tonnage measurement, a new vessel or plans for a vessel to be built, or an existing vessel. Write no appeal.
- What the lawyer must review
- 46 CFR section 1.03-30, as displayed on the Cornell page opened on 22 October 2026, is limited to decisions or actions of the Marine Safety Center. Subsection (a): a person directly affected by a decision involving tonnage measurement, or which otherwise affects a new vessel or plans for a vessel to be built, may, after requesting reconsideration by the Commanding Officer, Marine Safety Center, appeal via that officer to the Commandant under the procedures in section 1.03-15. Subsection (b): a decision not involving tonnage measurement but affecting an existing vessel requires, before a formal appeal, review by the cognizant Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection, and may then be appealed to the District Commander under section 1.03-20. Sections 1.03-15 and 1.03-20 were not opened. This section is not a review path for every maritime safety decision. Cornell is not the official CFR. You write any appeal. Opinion 512.
