Build a dispute-intake snapshot from the claim papers
Key facts
- Human involvement
- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- From the complaint, demand, or claim the lawyer supplies, extract the parties, the forum, the relief sought, the dates stated in the paper, and the documents the paper refers to. Do not assess the merits and do not calculate a response deadline.
- What the lawyer must review
- If the paper is a federal complaint, Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 8(a) requires a short and plain statement of the grounds for the court's jurisdiction, unless the court already has jurisdiction and the claim needs no new jurisdictional support, a short and plain statement of the claim showing that the pleader is entitled to relief, and a demand for the relief sought, which may include relief in the alternative. The snapshot records what the paper says. It does not answer the complaint. The time to respond depends on the summons, the rules of the forum, and any agreement to extend time. The tool states no deadline. ABA Formal Opinion 512 leaves the lawyer responsible for checking the extraction before it is used.
