How AI is used
From the administrator’s decision note, draft a notice that states the charges, the length of the suspension, and the chance to respond. The lawyer checks it against the record before it is sent.
What the lawyer must review
Goss v. Lopez requires, for a suspension of 10 days or less, oral or written notice of the charges and, if denied, an explanation of the evidence and an opportunity to present the student’s version. Generally that notice and hearing come before removal, unless immediate removal is justified because the student’s presence endangers persons or property or threatens disruption, in which case notice and hearing follow as soon as practicable. The administrator, not the tool, decides the suspension. The lawyer confirms the draft matches the decision and the state code. If the student has a disability, stop and apply 34 C.F.R. § 300.530 before the notice goes out.
