Index the charge papers before any defense account is written
Key facts
- Human involvement
- RedLawyer-led
- How AI is used
- List the charging document, the next date the file states, and each exhibit by its description. Do not narrate the events and do not write a paragraph for the accused.
- What the lawyer must review
- You write any factual account filed for the accused. Model Rule 3.3(a)(3) says a lawyer shall not offer evidence the lawyer knows to be false, and it sets remedial duties if the lawyer comes to know that material evidence offered was false. A lawyer may refuse to offer evidence, other than the testimony of a defendant in a criminal matter, that the lawyer reasonably believes is false. Rule 16 is discovery in a federal criminal case. It does not authorize the tool to compose the accused's account. No state criminal-procedure rule for this filing was opened. Formal Opinion 512 requires verification before tool output is used. The index stays an index.

Who does what
| Role | What they do |
|---|---|
| Assistance | Supporting preparation only. Consider narrowly defined preparation support after confirming the tool’s capability and permitted scope. The tool writes nothing into the document. Substantive advice, judgement and any restricted content remain with the responsible human. |
| Lawyer | Perform the substantive analysis and decisions. Independently check any permitted supporting work and approve the exact output for its intended use. |
