- YellowClose supervision
- How AI is used
- List each identified relative and placement beside the preference steps in 25 U.S.C. § 1915. Leave the 'good cause' column for the lawyer.
- What the lawyer must review
- You decide whether the child is an Indian child and whether good cause departs from the preference. Section 1915 gives adoptive preference, absent good cause, to extended family, then other members of the child's tribe, then other Indian families, and a separate foster-care order. A tribal resolution can set a different order. Section 1912 also requires active efforts before foster-care placement of an Indian child.
